Book Tag – Get To Know Ya

get to know ya

It’s Friday! The weekend is almost here and it’s time to relax with a book. But before I do that, I want to do another book tag. I found the “get to know ya” tag over at Bionic Bookworm Blog (who you should definitely check out!) and it seemed like a fun one. So let’s do this!

FAVOURITE BOOK OF ALL TIME:

Hm, this starts off with an impossible question. I can’t pick one absolute favourite book, because my answer changes depending on my mood. So here are a few books I adore:

FAVOURITE BOOK FROM FIVE YEARS AGO:

This is an easy one: The Wheel of Time. Yes, I know it’s not just one book, but an entire series of 14 books (15, if you count the prequel). The entire series is over 4 million words long and it took me a whole year to finish it. So yeah, it’s the only thing I read back in 2013.

FAVOURITE DUOLOGY/TRILOGY/SERIES:

There are so many… I love epic fantasy, so most of my favourite books are (part of) a series. To name a few: The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, Harry Potter, and Six of Crows.

LAST BOOK YOU READ:

Sky in the Deep! I’m not sure why I didn’t buy it sooner, since it has Vikings. But now, a few months after its release, I got myself the book and I adore it! You can expect a review next week.

LAST BOOK OF POETRY YOU READ:

Erm… nothing? I’m not a big fan of poetry and can’t remember ever reading a book filled with it.

WHAT BOOK MOST INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?

This is a difficult one. I think either Matilda (because I was bullied at school and I loved to picture myself taking revenge by moving things with my eyes) or The Lord of the Rings (because I read it when the movies were released when I was 14 years old and it kickstarted my love for epic fantasy). But there are so many books with inspiring quotes or character arcs that have helped me get through difficult moments.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU UGLY CRY:

Hm, I can’t remember the last time I ugly cried while reading. Sometimes, I get a bit teary-eyed, but ugly cry? Not that I know of.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU LAUGH:

Nevernight and Godsgrave. I mean, those books are so bloody and at times heartbreaking, but if Jay Kristoff’s writing doesn’t make you laugh out loud at least a couple of times, there is something wrong with you.

A CHARACTER YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE FOR A DAY:

Hm… I’d like to be a Hobbit. Or an Elf. If I had to pick one specific character, I’d say Claire Beauchamp-Randall-Fraser from Outlander. Scotland is gorgeous and Jamie isn’t half bad either.

A BOOK SO GOOD YOU DREAMT ABOUT IT:

A Song of Ice and Fire. The plot lines, characters and all the foreshadowing that is going on throughout this series kept my mind occupied even after putting the books down. So it’s no wonder that I dreamt about it a few times.

A BOOK YOU DNF’D (DID NOT FINISH):

I generally try to finish every book I start. If I wasn’t so stubborn though, I probably would’ve DNF’d American Gods by Neil Gaiman (it’s boring, don’t @ me). The last book I actually DNF’d was Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose. It was so dense with philosophical musings and exams at school ate up all my time.

WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO READ?

Oh dear, where do I even start? Let’s see…

  • Kingdom of Ash – Sarah J. Maas
  • Darkdawn – Jay Kristoff
  • King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo
  • Strange the Dreamer – Laini Taylor (I confess, haven’t read it yet)
  • The Winds of Winter – George RR Martin (if it ever gets released)
  • The next Veronica Speedwell books by Deanna Raybourn

In the photo below you can see my physical TBR pile a few weeks ago (let’s not talk about the one on Goodsreads, it’s problematic). Since then, I’ve finished Grace and Fury, Heart of Thorns and Sky in the Deep.

That was all for today! Now I would like to get to know ya. So if you’re reading this: consider yourself tagged! Or simply answer one or more of these questions in the comments below!
