A Bookish Flickering’s October box

Now that summer’s over and the dark, cold days are here, what’s better than tea and candles to warm your heart? I decided to try the Harry Potter themed box by A Bookish Flickering.

One of the first things I noticed when I joined the Bookstagram community on Instagram, was the popularity of bookish candles. Say what? Bookish candles are candles based on characters, places or events in books. Want a candle based on A Court of Thorns and Roses? Outlander? Harry Potter? Whatever your fandom, you will find a candlemaker.

Being the hoarder that I am, I of course need these candles in my life! So when I saw a new shop from the Netherlands that offers monthly surprise boxes around a specific theme, I decided to go for it. Especially once I learnt the October theme was Harry Potter, because there is no such thing as too much Harry Potter merch, right?

So I purchased the box and waited patiently for it to arrive…

… until one day the box was waiting for me when I got home from work. I opened it and let me just say I’m super happy about all of it! Ask my boyfriend and my cat, I could not shut up about it.

So what was in the box?

First of all, we have 2 candles. Makes sense, right? The first is called The Burrow. It’s a soft orange colour and smells like candied clementine and apple pie. In the unburnt candle it’s a sweet scent with the candied clementine being stronger than the apple pie.

The other one is called Hogsmeade, is greyish white and smells like woodland walk and rainwater. In the unburnt candle it’s a fresh scent that somehow makes me think of the colour white. Is that weird, to link scents with colours…?

I love both smells and the jars and labels, they are wonderful! So wonderful in fact, that I don’t want to burn them… I’ll just keep them on my shelves as decoration for now, and occasionally sniff them, I guess.

Next were 2 types of tea. The one on the left is Butterbeer, it’s a flower tea with marigold and hop. It’s not a very strong tea, so you need to use a bit more tea per cup than you would usually use, and let it steep a bit longer. But when you do, you’re rewarded with a gorgeous golden colour and fresh flavour.

The other one is Pumpkin Juice and contains black tea, green tea, pumpkin, carrot, orange, rose and sunflower. “Tea with pumpkin and carrot?”, I hear you ask. Why yes, and it tastes and smells delicious, perfect for autumn afternoons. *sips from her cup*

But there was more in the box, because Manon from A Bookish Flickering knows how to spoil her customers. The regular box contained a bookmark of one of the Hogwarts Houses (you could pick which one when you purchased the box). But because I was one of the first customers, she put all 4 bookmarks in it! They’re in the House colours, with the name of the House on it. As a proud Ravenclaw I of course had to start using the blue one, the other 3 are perfect decorations on my shelves.

Conclusion?

I was so happy with all these items that I immediately ordered the November box, which will have a Christmas theme. But you can also still order the October items (separately or in the complete box) on A Bookish Flickering’s Etsy shop. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
