February 2020 Fairyloot – Unboxing

february 2020 fairyloot box

Hi everyone! How are you doing? What are you reading at the moment? I’m reading Through the White Wood, by Jessica Leake, which is a companion novel to Beyond a Darkened Shore. I got the latter in a Fairyloot box a while ago and loved it! Speaking of Fairyloot… It’s the first week of March and that means it’s time to unbox the February 2020 Fairyloot box! The theme is “Rulebreakers”, and don’t we all love reading about people who break the rules from time to time? So let’s dive right in!

As always, we start with the spoiler card, which has all the details of what’s in the box. On the reverse, there’s gorgeous artwork by Taratjah. I love the colours of the sky in this drawing!

Lip balm and scarf

The first item is something that always comes in handy, especially during winter. It’s a lip balm, created by Little Heart Gifts. It’s inspired by Malachiasz from Wicked Saints. As I have mentioned before, I am dying to read that book, especially because of Malachiasz! This lip balm smells like strawberry prosecco, which is amazing!

Next up, we have a stunning item that actually made me squeal! It’s a black scarf with gold foil, created by Taratjah. The design features thorns, a stack of books and a cat. This refers to the three main characters of Sorcery of Thorns, one of my favourite books of last year. It’s a super shiny scarf and I can’t wait to wear it! I just hope the foil won’t crack from use…

Ceramic mug and luggage tag

The following item is also inspired by a book that was featured in a Fairyloot box last year and that I loved. It’s a ceramic mug of Serpent & Dove! On the outside, you can see the main characters, painted by MerwildAndCo, and on the inside, there’s a serpent and dove by Taratjah! And it’s apparently dishwasher and microwave safe!

The next item made me laugh out loud. It’s a luggage tag that reads “One does not simply walk into Mordor” and features Barad-dûr and the eye of Sauron. This tag was designed by Bookmarkd.tattoos and LoveYouMoreStudio. I love the Lord of the Rings books and movies, they are what got me into fantasy. So I’ll probably use this tag the next time I travel!

Art print and bookmarks

Next up, there’s an art print by Noverantale. It features the protagonists of We Hunt the Flame, which is waiting for me on my bookshelf. I sometimes have a hard time picturing characters in books, so this gorgeous print will help me imagine these characters!

Noverantale also designed the next items. These are two foiled bookmarks and a sticker of the Nevernight series. The first bookmark reads “Never flinch, never fear, and never, ever forget”. The second reads “The books we love, they love us back & just as we mark our places in the pages, these pages leave their marks on us”. The sticker reads “Too many books, too few centuries”, which is something I think about every day.

Tarot cards and more

Before we move on to the featured book of the month, we have the tarot cards. This month, these cards are designed by Gabriella.Bujdoso and are inspired by Strange the Dreamer. I loved this book so much, but I still need to read the sequel!

There’s also the bookmark with this month’s artwork, and the Fairyscoop newsletter.

The book

And now it’s time to finally reveal the featured book of the February 2020 Fairyloot box! It’s… The Shadows Between Us, by Tricia Levenseller! In this book, Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power: woo the Shadow King, marry him, then kill him to take his kingdom for herself. But no one knows the extent of the Shadow King’s power, and Alessandra is not the only one trying to kill the king. She soon finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen – while struggling not to lose her heart.

This is a standalone novel, with a protagonist who definitely belongs in Slytherin. And I can’t wait to read it! And, as is often the case with these Fairyloot boxes, this is an exclusive edition! The cover is purple and black, instead of red and black; there is artwork (by VagueEnthusiast.Art) on the reverse of the dust jacket; the hardcover has embossing with stunning black roses; the spine is silver; and the book is signed by the author!

The book also comes with a letter by the author, which has jaw-dropping character artwork on the back (by MyValenstyles), and which you can see in the top left of the picture above. And there is a set of postcards: one by Julia Gardiner with the quote “After all, love is an excellent motivator to kill”, and two by Diana Dworak featuring Alessandra and the Shadow King. Aren’t they amazing?!

And that’s all for my unboxing of the February 2020 Fairyloot box. My favourite items were the mug, the scarf, the lip balm, and the book. Yes, that’s four favourite items because this was such a great box and it’s impossible to choose! Which items caught your eye? Let me know in the comments below!
