Hi everyone! How are you doing? I hope you’re safe and healthy. Today, I finally get to show you the contents of the March 2020 Fairyloot box! Usually, these boxes arrive around the 25th of the month, but due to everything that’s been going on, this one got delayed by almost two months. First, some of the products are made in China and factories there were closed. Then, because air traffic has decreased, these items took a long time to get to Fairyloot’s packing site. And then the mail services, which have been incredibly busy because of everyone buying stuff online, took longer than usual to deliver the box to my doorstep. But I want to applaud the Fairyloot team for keeping us updated throughout the whole process! Anyway, let’s get to unpacking!
The theme of the March 2020 Fairyloot box was “Break the Curse”. I love the artwork on the spoiler card, which you can see at the top of this post! As always, this was created by Taratjah.
Book sleeve and headband
Quick, think of a curse! Chances are you just thought of Beauty and the Beast. Well, this first item is inspired by A Curse So Dark and Lonely, a retelling of that fairytale by Brigid Kemmerer. It’s a gorgeous book sleeve, designed by EvieBookish! It features the quote “Failure isn’t absolute. Just because you couldn’t save everyone doesn’t mean you didn’t save anyone” from the book. It’s a pretty large sleeve, perfect for those big books we all love. And it has a zipper, to keep the book even more secure!
Up next, we have a headband. It has ravens and flowers on it in a design by Taratjah. It’s inspired by Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys. I have to confess I haven’t read the series so I have no idea what it is about. But I like the look of this headband!
Passport cover and tumbler cup
The next item is inspired by Marissa Meyer’s Heartless. It’s a passport cover with the words “Citizen of Wonderland” and an illustration by Noverantale. I loved this book when I read it last year, although I’m not so sure I’d want to live in Wonderland… And I don’t have a passport, so I’m not sure if I’ll be using this anytime soon. But I like the idea and it looks cute!
When this box arrived, the first thing I noticed was that it barely closed. After opening it, it was pretty clear why: this huge tumbler cup! Like the passport cover, the design on this cup was created by Noverantale. It features the quote “To family & Faerieland & pizza & stories and new beginnings & scheming great schemes. I can toast to that.” from Holly Black’s The Queen of Nothing. Although I’m not a big fan of the series (or at least The Cruel Prince, I haven’t read the rest), I really like the look of this cup!
Lanyard and notepad
Up next we have Caraval-inspired lanyard! CatarinaBookDesigns created the illustrations with the roses and playing cards we know from Stephanie Garber’s series. I have to admit I don’t use lanyards. But if I ever get to go to a big convention, I might use this one!
Do you ever find yourself thinking of an idea that you need to write down, like, now? In that case, this notepad is your best friend. CatarinaBookDesigns illustrated the pages with some stunning genie artwork. It’s so pretty I don’t want to write on it!
Tarot cards, postcard and more
Before we move on to the featured book of the month, we have the traditional tarot cards! These cards were designed by Gabriella Bujdoso and are inspired by Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. Seven of Cups features Chaol and Yrene, Eight of Cups portrays Lysandra and Aedion. This series has enough characters to fill an entire tarot deck, by the way, so I’m curious to see who we’ll get next time!
The Fairyloot team also added a nice little extra to our boxes, to thank us for our patience and send us some courage in these trying times. This little postcard from A Court of Thorns and Roses’ Velaris definitely made me smile!

The book of the month
And so we have reached the big moment… The reveal of the featured book of the March 2020 Fairyloot box! It is… Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie. This book is about Ailesse, who has been prepared since birth to become the matriarch of the Bone Criers, a mysterious famille of women who use strengths drawn from animal bones to ferry dead souls. But first she must complete her rite of passage… kill the boy she’s destined to love. Bastien’s father was slain by a Bone Crier and he’s been seeking revenge. He manages to capture Ailesse, and now their fates are entwined.
Doomed romance? Macabre magic? Give it to meeeeee! This exclusive Fairyloot edition comes with glittery green sprayed edges, foil on the title, artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket (by Diana Dworak, see image below), and it is signed by the author! And as always, there’s a letter by the author, with gorgeous character artwork on the reverse (also by Diana Dworak), which you can see above.
