May 2019 Fairyloot – Unboxing

may 2019 fairyloot

It’s time to unbox the May 2019 Fairyloot box! My post is a bit later this month, because the box itself was delayed a few days and then I was just too tired and busy to write this. But here we are, so without further ado: the contents of the Unlikely Romances box!

As always, we start with the spoiler card, which once again features stunning artwork by Taratjah – as you can see in the image at the top of this post.

Travel mug and pencil case

The first item I pulled out of my box, was this gorgeous travel mug. It’s designed by KDP Letters and is inspired by Tahereh Mafi’s Ignite Me. On one side, it reads “Ignite, my love, ignite”, while the quote on the other side reads “I spent my life folded between the pages of books”. And it’s not just your average travel mug either. Nope, it’s made of biodegradable bamboo, making it more eco-friendly than plastic mugs. The lid and thermal insulation band are made of silicone and this cup can carry up to 350 ml of your favourite (hot) beverage.

The second item is a pencil case, designed by Literary Lifestyle Company. The quote reads “Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.” This is taken from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. I absolutely love the flower design! I don’t really need a pencil case at the moment, but I’ll find some other use for this item, because it’s just too beautiful to just put away unused.

Keychain and magnetic bookmarks

The next item is absolutely stunning! It’s a keychain with a big golden crown. And when I say big, I mean BIIIIIIIG. This crown is pretty huge, but it’s lighter than I expected. It’s inspired by Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince and features the quote “Kiss me until I am sick of it” along its rim. As I said, it’s a gorgeous item, but I do worry a bit about the spikes of the crown. They are not super sharp, but I’m not entirely sure they won’t scratch my phone’s screen…

Up next we have… a set of magnetic bookmarks inspired by Renée Ahdieh’s books! @Lexaa_exclusively created these four bookmarks featuring the main characters from Flame in the Mist (Okami and Mariko) and The Wrath and the Dawn (Shahrzad and Khalid). I’ve only read one of these books so far, but I really want to read her other books as well. And now I have the perfect bookmarks for them!

Tea towel and candle

The next item is a tea towel! The characters are drawn by Taratjah and the lettering is done by Catarinabookdesigns. It features two characters from Kiera Cass’s The Selection and the quote reads “True love is usually the most inconvenient kind”. It’s a pretty basic design, but there’s nothing wrong with that. And we can always use more tea towels, right?

One item I always love finding in my Fairyloot boxes, is candles. It had been a while since the last one, but now there’s another one! Little Heart Gifts created this A Court of Thorns and Roses candle. It’s fairly simple: no dyed wax and no glitters on top. But it smells amazing! The label tells me its scent is bamboo, fresh lilies and soft woody notes and this combination is divine! One minor complaint: this lid is white, while the previous Fairyloot candles had black lids. Now it won’t fit among my collection, aaaargh!

Notepad and sticker

Another thing I seem to collect, is notepads. And now I have another one for my collection! This notepad features the quote “Instead of disappearing, she makes me feel reappeared. Reimagined”. This is from Natasha Ngan’s Girls of Paper and Fire. And look at the drawings around the edges! I think this will be another notepad I’ll never use, because it’s just too pretty. Yes, I’m terrible…

And the items just keep coming in this May 2019 Fairyloot box! I’m not a Shadowhunter fan myself, but I know many of you are. So you’ll be glad to see this Magnus and Alec sticker! It’s designed by @obsidiayan and is – of course – inspired by Cassandra Clare’s books.

Mint tin, tarot cards and more

Next up, we have a mint tin, filled to the brim with delicious smelling mints. And look at the text on the lid! I’m sure we can all relate to that, right?

We’ve almost reached the bottom of this month’s box, but first we have the traditional (can we call them that yet?) tarot cards! These are the final cards for the Six of Crows set and portray Inej and Kaz, two of my favourite characters from Leigh Bardugo’s series (who am I kidding? All of the Dregs are my favourites). Like the other Six of Crows characters, these are designed by @artbyemmilinne and they look amazing!

And finally, before we move on to the book of the month… The Fairyscoop newsletter, the bookmark with this month’s artwork and a promo card for Romanov, in which Anastasia Romanov has to smuggle a spell to save her family. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after her.

… And the book

So now the moment you’ve all been waiting for… the featured book of the month in the May 2019 Fairyloot! It’s The Beholder by Anna Bright! This tells the story of Selah, who is sent across the ocean to other kingdoms to find a suitor. These suitors are all inspired by mythical figures and Selah’s journey takes her across an alternate version of Europe! This edition has soft pink sprayed edges, foiling on the title and is signed by the author! I hope the story itself is as amazing as this book looks on the outside! There’s also the traditional letter from the author with character art on the back. This time, the characters are illustrated by @rachelhanke27 and I can’t wait to meet them on the pages!

That was all the contents from the May 2019 Fairyloot box! My favourite items were the travel mug, the candle and the pencil case. And the book, of course. What were yours? Let me know in the comments below!
