Hi everyone! How are you all doing? I’m back after taking a short break and I have a whole list of blog posts to write in the coming weeks! So without further ado, let’s get started with today’s post, which is my unboxing of the May 2020 Fairyloot box!
The theme for this box is “Desert Dreams”. And as always, there’s a spoiler card with this month’s artwork on the reverse. You can see this gorgeous art by Taratjah in the image at the top of this post. As a fan of Aladdin, I simply love this!
Tin and spoon
The first item is a tin designed by Chattynora. It’s inspired by We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal and it looks amazing! I love the blue and yellow, and the little stars! It also features a quote from the book which reads “We hunt the flame, the light in the darkness, the good this world deserves”. And with my (waaaaay too big) tea collection, this tin comes in handy to store some of it!
The second item is also something that is very useful in the kitchen. It’s an engraved wooden spoon! KDPLetters created the design. The quote reads “There’s no such thing as just a story”, which is from Alwyn Hamilton’s Rebel of the Sands series. I really enjoyed those books and I can’t wait to start cooking some delicious dishes with this spoon!
Tea towel and bath salts
And we remain in the kitchen for yet another item! This one is a tea towel designed by EvieBookish. Fans of The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty will definitely recognize the stunning artwork! The quote reads “Often the mightiest things have the humblest beginnings”. I am in love with this towel. Like I said before, these books are next on my shopping list and now I am even more excited!
From the kitchen we move on to the bathroom. These are stressful times for everyone, so it’s important to relax whenever you can. And these bath salts seem like the perfect way to do that! Little Heart Gifts created these bath salts that are sandalwood-scented. I haven’t opened the package yet, so I can’t tell you how they smell, but I imagine it must be good! Oh, and I love how the colour makes it resemble sand, fitting for the desert theme, don’t you think?
Candle and sunglass pouch
Speaking of relaxing with scented items… Up next, we have a candle! WickAndFable created these Tribal Desert candles inspired by Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes. The label doesn’t mention the scent and I can’t pinpoint it either, but it smells really good. A bit flowery with some exotic accents, maybe musk and some kind of wood…? In any case, it’s great!
Up next we have a sunglass pouch! Kitstercronk designed this super useful pouch, and it features a quote from The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury that reads “You can’t choose what happens to you, but you can choose who you become because of it”. And isn’t that true?!
Tarot cards and more
Before we move on to the book of the May 2020 Fairyloot box, we have the tarot cards. Like the previous two months, these cards are designed by Gabriella Bujdoso and inspired by Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass Series. Four of Cups is Rowan, while Three of Cups is Aelin. These weren’t my favourite characters in the series (hi, Manon!), but they are an iconic duo.
Furthermore, we also have the Fairyscoop newsletter and the bookmark with this month’s artwork.
The book
And now it’s time to reveal the featured book of the May 2020 Fairyloot box! It is… Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust! It tells the story of princess Soraya, who is cursed to be poisonous to the touch. She has lived her life hidden away from everyone apart from her family. But as the day of her twin brother’s wedding approaches, she must decide if she’s willing to step outside of the shadows. In the dungeons below, there is a demon who holds knowledge that she craves. And above is a young man who is not afraid of her. When Soraya’s choices lead to consequences she never imagined, she begins to question who she is and who she is becoming: human or demon.
Doesn’t that sound great?! It’s a reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, mixed with Persian mythology and a bisexual main character! Oh, and the official publication date for this book was pushed back from May to July, so we get to read it before it hits the shelves!
What’s more is the fact that it’s an exclusive edition! The standard edition has a beige/grey-ish background while this one is dusty pink. It also has green sprayed edges that go well with the naked cover, there is exclusive artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket (by Orikye), and the book is signed by the author! There is also a letter from the author, with character artwork on the reverse (by MerwildAndCo).
And that’s it for my unboxing of the May 2020 Fairyloot box! What are your favourite items? Mine are the spoon, the towel and the candle!
That cover of Girl, Serpent, Thorn is gorgeous!
Fun! I love Aladdin, at least the cartoon, and that art is GORGEOUS. Thanks for sharing your fun box 🙂
